The story of a little crab

Once upon a time there lived a small crab. This story is from the times when any animal could be born to any other animal family. So our dear little crab opened his eyes in the lap of his mom and later as time passed on he had a balance, a ram, a lion and a fish as siblings. The crab was very impressionable and a dreamer yet very shy. Slightest movement or sound and he would run and hide in his mom`s lap.The mom understood the mindset of the crab and so she watched over.
Crabs have a tendency to cling and to collect things and our little crab was no exception. He collected many curious things as he was a curious little crab. He tried to shun his shyness with artistic expressions with the help and guidance of his mom initially and later followed it at his school too. Art and music became his friends and he found his expressions in those forms. But deep in his heart he was still a very shy and introvert crab. He utilized his years to read a lot many books and watched things happening around him with a keen crab eye from his safe haven. Once in a while he would poke a small leg to feel the outside sunshine, rain and moonlight. Years passed as they always do in a crabs life inside his safe place which he changed a few times for the search of better food and life. The best part of a crab`s life is that they always carry a piece from their part with them. This crab did the same and all those lions, fish and other animals kept their connection intact. Yet, the crab always felt the need of someone who can make him feel strong and needed. He could never realize that all the animals around him actually admired him for his abilities to perform difficult looking tasks and always sought his advise on matters close to their heart and souls.
Crab being a good Samaritan went rather too far to help people but he always kept a memory of those people with him. Crabs do that all the time. They collect a lot of stuff that means only to them and only they can explain the meaning of the beauty of those things. It might be a small dry leaf, a fallen little feather, a random shiny small pebble or any other such stuff. Their gifts are often created out of their own collections and they are fabled to be among the top end pieces. Crabs are generous by nature and gregarious by need and so our crab was also showing all these traits. This crab used to meet a million other animals during his wakeful hours that it was difficult for him to keep track yet being a crab pays off as he managed to keep an individual impression as a memory or a visiting card for nearly everyone he met. That was taken as a rare gift and talent and people used to feel familiarity and safety with our crab.
One fine day when the crab was busy helping another small animal for picking up on some task he saw a scorpion. He had seen many of those in his life but this scorpion appeared different. He could identify with the creature as both crawl quite fast and both have large claws to hold things. Both have a hard shell and a softer underbelly. So, as it happened and he looked carefully the scorpion looked very sad with tears running down. Crab approached the scorpion and asked whatever happened. It seemed like the scorpion had some trouble in a mundane job but and there was a lot of expectation, pride for self and sense of responsibility involved and the time was running out like dry sand escapes between your fingers. That is why our scorpion was sad and teary eyed. The crab being himself went ahead, out of his safe hiding and helped the scorpion complete the task. The pride and responsibility stayed intact and the scorpion shed tears of relief and thankfulness for the crab. Here the crab as usual carried a piece of that scorpion with him.....a memory of a helping gesture but somewhere he could see his identical self in that scorpion. Almost same shell, same number of legs and claws. Albeit the scorpion looked much slimmer and the obvious pride of a venomous sting that it carried high in the air.
The whole scenario looked very appealing and pleasing to the little crab and he felt an instant recognition with that scorpion. He told that scorpion that he is just a shy little crab living under his rock of safety while the scorpion walks with pride out in the sunshine or under the moonlight hunting for random things. He sought the safety from the scorpion and imbibed whatever oozed out of that scorpion. Generally people get scared of those scorpions but here is our crab who felt a hundred percent similarity with it. Common qualities give birth to a fast and deep sense of camaraderie which our crab felt deep in his heart but probably the scorpion was too busy to see that. The crab started to come out of it`s safe place more often if he saw the scorpion pass bye. Occasionally they exchanged pleasantries with each other. A casual smile or so. The crab often felt good in helping the scorpion because it gave him a sense of different feel.
The world suddenly looked like a very safe place to the crab. The crab being gregarious extended a claw towards the scorpion to share the mutual qualities as he was oblivious of the obvious differences between crabs and scorpions.....The scorpion fell silent....the crab could not decide whatever happened and so he asked the scorpion......the scorpion said that it would be inappropriate for a scorpion to hold a crab`s claw for any reason....you are a good crab, no doubts but that is what it is. Crabs do not exist with scorpions.......and the crab immediately retreated in the deepest recess of his safe haven offering the scorpion his deepest apologies. The crab looked at that piece he carried from the scorpion unable to comprehend whatever just passed through him.

The crab lives in his retreat now trying to look away from those little tidbits, those little pieces of memories. Crabs do not cry....they just gather their limbs together and lie down still. They do not even have a fang or a sting to do anything. I am praying that one day our crab will feel sunny again.
